Shinnyo-en Buddhism is a modern sect of Buddhism based in Japan, and its name can be translated to "garden of borderless truth". It incorporates both Buddhist and Christian practices into its teachings and emphasizes personal enlightenment.

 

The temple was designed with these beliefs in mind. It was designed to resemble something in a garden, and features many natural prints and patterns. Instead of sculptures, the Buddha is represented by hollowed-out reliefs. This encourages worshippers to imagine themselves as him and to follow in his footsteps.
